My take on the classic Moscow Mule. Refreshing and easy drinking, something that can be your drinking buddy for the whole evening.
This is a cocktail that I stumbled across whilst on holiday with my Girlfriend, last October. We were in Milan and it was maybe our third day there. We had visited the Duomo earlier that day, and we decided to go and grab a drink. Whilst we were on the roof of the Duomo we could see a little rooftop bar and we thought we’d give that a try. Before reaching the bar, we made a pit stop at the Moët & Chandon champagne bar which was inside and was really nice. We then took our Champagne outside and sat on the rooftop and eventually decided to stay for a cocktail.
We both looked through the list, and the Apple Mule caught my eye. Essentially it is a Moscow Mule (but with 50% Apple Juice and 50% Ginger Beer, rather than all Ginger Beer). The only issue that I have with Moscow Mules are the fact that the Ginger Beer taste is really quite strong and when you are not a massive fan of Ginger Beer at the best of times it isn’t great. So the Apple Juice tones down the strong ginger taste, which makes for a really refreshing drink. A drink that is frighteningly easy to drink.
In fact it has become a favourite of mine. So much so that my Girlfriend’s parents gave me Moscow Mule cups, a bottle of Vodka and about 8 bottles of ginger beer for my Christmas! So that has kept me going for a little while.
I’d recommend using a quality vodka. I am partial to polish vodka as I think it is much smoother than that French stuff with the bird. No point in having cheap ginger beer if you are using quality vodka. This Fever-Tree is probably the best ginger beer I have tasted. As for the apple juice, any will do as long as it is not from concentrate.
So here is what you’ll need to do…
Ingredients – Serves One
- Vodka – 50 ml
- Lime Juice – 12.5 ml
- Sugar Syrup or Brown Sugar Cubes – 12.5 ml or 1 cube
- Apple Juice
- Ginger Beer
- First take your glass and fill it with ice
- Followed by the Vodka, Lime Juice and Sugar Syrup
- Then fill the glass half way with Ginger Beer
- And then add the Apple Juice to the top
- To finish, add a slice of both green apple and ginger then give it a stir
Your finished drink should look something like this and will be the best thing you have tasted since your Gran made your Christmas Dinner.
Thank you so much for reading and I hope you enjoy,
